NEA HEALTH & INNOVATION PROGRAMME (HIP) 2015-16

In 2015, NEA (National Energy Action) embarked upon a ground-breaking scheme – to take money generated by fines imposed on The Big 6 for not reaching energy saving targets, and to redirect that money back where it belongs: to help those in need climb out of fuel poverty. £26M was secured to help properties in 10 key UK areas.

The Project Objectives

National Energy Action

The HIP asked for innovative solutions to help increase the energy efficiency of households and reduce tenant’s bills, and issued a Call for Proposals. Greenvision Energy have long been members of NEA,and share their passion for reducing fuel poverty in the UK. We instantly saw that this scheme could make some real changes to people’s lives and wellbeing. In partnership with Nottingham Community Housing Association (NCHA), Greenvision Energy submitted a proposal to overhaul the existing heating systems with a Whole House approach – utilising several technologies that complement each other to provide maximum savings. We proposed to install:

  • Tariff and Benefits Services (TABS)
  • Dimplex Quantum High Heat Retention Storage Heaters
  • Dimplex Solar Thermal Hot Water Cylinders
  • Voltage Optimisation Units
  • Water Saving Showerheads and Aerators
  • LED Lighting
  • Real Time Energy Monitors

NEA received over 200 Calls for Proposal applications, with 42 successful applicants in the UK. NCHA and Greenvision Energy’s proposal was a success, and work began on installing these measures to local properties in the Nottingham area. The scheme will involve technical monitoring and collection of energy saving data to analyse the effectiveness of the installed measures, and to help steer future legislation and funding to enable tenants to affordably install the same technologies down the line.

The Results - Lower bills & Improved health and wellbeing

Initial Findings

By the end of 2015, Greenvision Energy had successfully installed these measures to 13 properties with a further 22 properties scheduled in before April 2016. Even at this early stage, the results are extremely encouraging with tenants already reporting significant savings and EPC ratings increasing by up to 2 bands. The results of this scheme will be analysed and publically distributed after an intensive 18-month monitoring period, and we are extremely excited to see the results. We will update this case study in conjunction with the scheme so please keep checking back for further news.
