District Heating Loan (Commercial & Scotland Only)

What is a District Heating Loan?

If you’re thinking of implementing a district heating project, you could be eligible for a District Heating Loan. This low-interest, unsecured loan is usually repayable over a 10 year period meaning it is an affordable option when compared with often expensive and difficult to secure commercial borrowing. The standard loan is usually up to £400,000; however, proposals requiring over £400,000 will be considered individually. Although interest rates are dependent on credit status, the standard interest rate is just 3.5% for low risk projects!

What is a District Heating Scheme?

A District Heating Scheme is heating multiple buildings using a centralised boiler, or the heat from a Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plant - an efficient and clean approach to generating electric power.

Who is eligible for this loan?

Although only available for commercial properties or those in Scotland, the District Heating Loan and the District Heating Scheme is a great option for:

  • Local authorities
  • Small and medium sized enterprises
  • Registered social landlords
  • Energy services companies [ESCOs] with less than 250 employees

How can Greenvision help?

We can help with sourcing your funding, the setting up of a district heating scheme and the installation of all the renewable technology involved, like biomass and air source heat pumps. Start saving today by calling Greenvision Energy on 0115 854 7498

Energy Company Obligation (ECO) Domestic

What is the Domestic Energy Company Obligation (ECO)?

ECO is a government scheme that places obligations on energy suppliers to increase energy efficiency in British homes in order to tackle fuel poverty. Essentially, these are subsidies to provide energy efficient home improvements to those most in need and in homes where such improvements are more difficult to achieve. ECO has been implemented to replace existing obligations, such as the Carbon Emissions Reduction Target (CERT) and the Community Energy Saving Programme (CESP).

How does the Domestic Energy Company Obligation work?

The 6 main domestic gas and electricity suppliers in Britain are given a target to reduce fuel poverty that they then achieve by implementing green solutions in homes. The target given to each company depends on their position in the energy market and the total of all these targets equates to the Government’s overall ECO goal. Delivering energy saving measures in homes became mandatory on 1st April 2015 and this ‘Obligatory Period’ – known as ECO2 – will continue until 31st March 2017.

Who qualifies for ECO funding?

  • Privately owned houses prone to fuel poverty
  • Those in social housing
  • Households in rural areas that may struggle financially
  • Those in houses deemed “hard to treat” for insulation, such as properties with solid instead of cavity walls

Renewable Heat Incentive
The Renewable Heat Incentive is a Government scheme that encourages households to use and produce renewable heat, such as through a biomass system. By joining the scheme and following its requirements, households can benefit from quarterly payments for seven years depending on the amount of renewable heat that their system produces. Watch our video for more information on the Renewable Heat Incentive!

Carbon Saving Community Obligation (CSCO)
What is the Carbon Saving Community Obligation?

The Carbon Saving Community Obligation aims to reduce fuel poverty by implementing energy saving solutions such as solid wall insulation, cavity wall insulation, loft insulation and glazing into private and social housing in low-income areas. Although expected to particularly help the social housing sector, CSCO also has funding to help vulnerable households receiving certain benefits in rural communities (a settlement with less than 10,000 homes).

Who can qualify for a CSCO grant?

In order to be able to receive a CSCO grant, an applicant must:

• Be in occupancy of the property during the installation of the chosen energy saving measure

• Be legally able to occupy the property 30 days after the installation has been finished

• Have a written tenancy agreement starting within 30 days after the installation has finished

How much funding can I get through the CSCO?

CSCO funding is difficult to predict as each application is unique and the amount of money available depends on each applicant’s circumstances and their property. The exact amount is calculated using the Standard Assessment Procedure or Reduced Standard Assessment Procedure.

Are there any conditions for getting a grant through the CSCO?

CSCO funding projects can only take place in CSCO qualifying low-income areas. Conditions of the grant also include:

  • The loft of the property must be fully insulated
  • The exterior wall of the property must be fully insulated

However, if there is a good reason as to why the above conditions have not been met, you may still be able to apply for a CSCO grant for your green energy project.

If you have an energy saving project that you think would be eligible for ECO funding, call Greenvision today on 0115 854 7498.
